In 2013 , Ewoud lost his right leg due to a tumor. After rehabilitation, Ewoud started exercising intensively. Since then, Ewoud became world champion 3 times, broke the World Hour Record and won 3 times silver at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo and Paris. In 2025 , he rode the gruelling Cape Epic on one leg.
